CASCO BAY FERRY RIDE

August 21, 2016

I’ve discovered a secret! Well, it’s really not a secret to the locals (or even tourists) but a few weeks ago I took the ferry on a sunset tour around Casco Bay. Don’t ask me how I’ve lived in Maine for nearly two years and am just now finding out about this! Christin and I set out one balmy evening in search of the ferry docks. For a minimal fee you get to hop on the ferry and take a 3 hour ride around the islands dotting the bay.

There is a mad dash when the gate opens of people trying to get prime seating on the benches in the front of the boat. However, if you walk to the back you can spread out a blanket and practically have the whole thing to yourself (views and all!) As two girls who love to eat, we naturally came prepared with a picnic including one of the best lobster rolls I've found in Maine, fried brussels sprouts drizzled with sriracha aoli, and truffle fries all from Milly's Skillet washed down with a bottle of Pinot Gris.

As the cool ocean breeze took over we slipped on some warmer layers and took in the sights. Boats bobbed in the bay while seagulls swooped overhead.

Watching as the sun dipped down below the horizon painting the sky ablaze with fiery oranges and golds and finally fading into the palest of pinks as twilight emerged.

The perfect end to a classic Maine evening with a great friend!

DECIDING ON "HOME"

July 10, 2016

It's an interesting thing putting down roots somewhere. I think, overall, the process was very organic for A and I. After having lived in North Carolina for nearly three years it was clear that New England was where we were meant to be. It's where we were born, it's where we grew up, where we fell in love... It's where our families live and it's where we want to raise our children.

Even though both of us had only been to Maine a handful of times we decided it was the place we wanted to settle down. There is something about the rocky shores and moody sea that really draws me in. I find it peaceful to walk barefoot on the beach, watching my footprints fade into the waves while the taste of the salty air lingers on my lips.

And then, of course, there are the beautiful mountains. Life without mountains would be so unfortunate, I think. Being surrounded by pine trees, inhaling their deep, earthy scent is something my soul craves. Life without mountains is not a life I choose.

So there you have it! Maine happens to be a lovely marriage of the two. Maine makes sense.

P.S. Hello blog world- it's good to be back!

BACHELORETTE

June 20, 2014

I am in love with these photographs my talented friend Carly took during my bachelorette weekend in Napa!

LADIES BEING LADIES

June 18, 2014

These ladies are seriously THE best. They planned the most perfect bachelorette weekend ever. They flew me to San Francisco where the weekend got started with opening our goodie bags and champagne out in the city. Then we went to an amazing brunch and started our drive to Napa stopping, of course, for photos at the Golden Gate bridge.

We arrived at the cutest little house in downtown Napa where we made flower crowns and sipped on mojitos with our "special" straws. After, we went to a delicious dinner in downtown Napa wearing our gorgeous creations! Bachelorette games were played. All of the girls got me panties and I had to guess who got me which ones (I got them all correct!). Then there were questions that they had Austin answer prior to the weekend and they compared my answers to his.... our answers were all the same! My heart melted when they read me Austin's answer to "When did you know you were in love with Kristen" and his response was "when she became my best friend".

The next day involved a limo and a lot of vineyards! The weather was gorgeous and I was surrounded by my best girls.

The weekend ended with a hike followed by lunch at Lagunitas brewery. Then stopping by Sausalito before heading back into the city for some exploring!

My heart was so full all weekend. I am forever grateful for the amazing memories and I wish we could get together like this more often!!

**I snagged a lot of these photos from the girls because I was too busy living in the moment to take my own!**
