CHARLESTON, SC
May 2, 2013
For my birthday my parents came to visit and the four of us (Mom, Dad, Austin and I) drove down to South Carolina. We stayed at a charming estate in Summerville, a town right outside of Charleston. We arrived on my birthday and had plans to go out to a nice dinner in the city. Little did I know Austin had a horse drawn carriage waiting for me to give us a tour of historic Charleston before taking us to dinner. When we were down one particularly cute and quiet alley way Austin got down on his knee in the carriage and proposed! Needless to say I was VERY surprised... and of course I said yes!! We had a wonderful dinner with my parents and celebrated with a nice bottle of champagne from Austin's family. The rest of the vacation was just as magical. We toured Magnolia plantation and its beautiful gardens, spent a day at Folly Beach and ate delicious steamed crab, and spent a few days exploring Charleston. We also met up with some family which was wonderful!

CHANGE
March 19, 2013
Recognize this tree from a few posts ago? Well this is what it looked like today, in all its blooming glory. We've been blessed with some beautiful weather this last week (most of which was spent inside working). The weather isn't the only thing changing around here. We've been doing some things to spruce up the apartment (more to come on that) and hopefully some career changes will be happening in the near future (for me) but I don't want to jinx anything so I'm not spilling yet!
MASTERING THE ART
March 5, 2013
One of my favorite movies is Julie & Julia. Its about a woman living in Brooklyn who cooks her way through Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking cookbook. I, of course, was inspired and had to get the cookbook right away! Well a few months ago (after owning the cookbook for over a year) I decided it was time to crack the spine and try a recipe or two. One morning Austin and I were craving Eggs Benedict so I thought why not have a go at making Hollandaise sauce. It was a little touch and go at first but eventually the butter decided to cooperate and it turned out amazing!
